Shopify news in one browser tab, without the scrolling

Shopify news for merchants comes from two kinds of places: Shopify's changelog, which posted 45 entries from October 1 to 29, 2026, and the posts on X, Reddit and LinkedIn that explain those changes.

We counted a month of Shopify changelog entries and mapped where the news about them breaks. Our team also built a free tool to read those sources for you. It's GemNews, a Chrome extension that puts a Shopify briefing in every new tab.

Here is the GemNews feed, the same one the extension opens in each new tab:

The feed that opens in each new tab: the lead story, the newest articles and a Black Friday countdown, on GemNews, captured October 2026

GemNews is free, needs no account and reads in English, Tiếng Việt and 中文. You can add GemNews to Chrome here, or read the same feed on the GemNews website.

Where Shopify news breaks

Shopify news reaches merchants through two kinds of channels. Shopify's own pages say what changed: the Shopify Changelog and the Shopify Help Center.

Everyone else explains what it means. Merchants ask each other on the Shopify Community forums. Sellers and agencies post on X, LinkedIn, Reddit and Facebook, and trade press such as Digital Commerce 360 and Search Engine Journal covers the bigger moves.

You need both sides: the changelog gives you the exact rule, and the posts show which rules other stores are already tripping over. These are nine sources that reports in the GemNews feed linked on October 31, 2026:

Take the EU product ID rule, posted in a Shopify Changelog entry dated October 24, 2026. From November 1, 2026, the EU requires three product identifiers for each item in direct-to-consumer parcels valued under €150.

Shopify fills part of that in. The product variant already covers the merchant identifier, and a standardized code such as a GTIN also serves as the manufacturer code when you have no separate one.

A missing required identifier still stops the label. Shopify's post says labels for EU-bound orders cannot be purchased through Shopify Shipping or Managed Markets for items missing required identifiers. It was one of two changelog entries that day, next to a Managed Markets shipping update.

How much Shopify news is there in a month?

Shopify's merchant changelog posted 45 entries dated October 1 to 29, 2026, by our count on October 31. Most days with an entry had one to three. On October 28 it posted 14, the same day the Shopify Newsroom published its Fall '26 Edition stories:

Shopify's merchant changelog posted 45 entries from October 1 to 29, 2026, with 14 on October 28, the day of the Fall '26 Edition

An Edition is a release of its own. Shopify Editions describes itself as everything new across Shopify, every six months. On the Fall '26 Edition page, the Developer filter alone lists 57 items, the part of the release for people who build apps and storefronts.

Then come the posts about each change. The GemNews report on the EU rule, shown further down, was built from seven of them.

What a Google search for Shopify news returns

Half of Google's ten results for shopify news on October 31, 2026 were stock, press-release or earnings pages. Four more covered Shopify the company. We sorted them by title.

The remaining result, eighth on the page, was a running list of Shopify updates from Shopifreaks, an ecommerce news curation site. It was the one page our reader could open. The same results page led its People also ask box with Why did Shopify stock drop so much?, and its related searches were all about the stock.

Results change by location and account, so treat this as a snapshot of one day. A search for shopify news chrome extension found no news reader by title. Its nine titles named best-of lists, store inspectors, research and ad tools, a tracking debugger and a blogging guide.

How we checked

  • Changelog count. We read the Shopify Changelog page on October 31, 2026 and counted the entries dated October 1 to 29, 2026: 45 in total, 14 of them on October 28.
  • Edition page. We read the item count on the Developer filter of the Fall '26 Edition page on October 31, 2026. The Fall '26 date comes from the Shopify Newsroom.
  • Google results. We pulled one results page for each query on October 31, 2026 and sorted the results by title. Our page reader could open only one of the ten shopify news results, so the sort rests on titles.
  • Feed sources. We noted nine sources linked from reports in the GemNews feed on October 31, 2026. Reports also cite guides and studies from other sites, so treat the nine as a sample.

How GemNews turns public posts into one briefing

GemNews is a free Chrome extension that replaces your new tab with a Shopify and ecommerce briefing. Its main section, Hot News, holds short reports on what merchants are discussing, such as platform releases, agentic checkout, AI search and ad costs.

Each report is written by AI from public posts. An editor reviews it before it goes out, according to the GemNews listing on the Chrome Web Store. Each one also says how many source posts it was built from and links every source.

Here is the EU report in the GemNews reader. Look at the line above the headline, then at the links in the first lines:

A Hot News report marked as distilled from 7 trending posts, with the Shopify Changelog linked in its first lines, on GemNews, captured October 2026
A Hot News report marked as distilled from 7 trending posts, with the Shopify Changelog linked in its first lines, on GemNews, captured October 2026

Open those links when a report touches your store. The changelog post or the original thread is one click away, so you can check the exact wording before you change anything. The bookmark button saves a report to read later.

What else is in the tab

These sections are free to read too:

  • Case Studies: one real store at a time, with the numbers before and after (conversion rate, revenue, average order value, return on ad spend), what changed, and a link to where the numbers were first published.
  • Holidays: a countdown and a week-by-week prep plan for each sales holiday, with dates across nine markets, from the US, UK and EU to India, the Middle East and Latin America.
  • Winning Products: roundups of new product launches and what their product pages do to lower the risk of a first order.
  • Articles: longer pieces on CRO, conversion teardowns, AI storefronts and tools.

The Black Friday plan shows how Holidays works. It counts down to November 27, 2026 and splits the prep into dated steps, starting 90 days before:

The Black Friday plan: six dated steps, from picking the offer 90 days out to noting what sold, on GemNews, captured October 2026

Members with a GemCommunity account also get AI Workflows and live sessions.

Ways to follow Shopify news, compared

Each channel is good at one job, and GemNews comes last because it reads the others:

Source What you get Best for
Shopify Changelog Official product changes, 45 entries from October 1 to 29, 2026 The exact wording of a change
Shopify Editions Shopify's big release, every six months Seeing where the platform is going
Shopify Help Center and Community Rules and how-tos, plus merchants' questions Fixing a problem you already have
X, LinkedIn, Reddit and Facebook First reactions, case studies and complaints from other sellers Hearing what other stores see, if you have time to scroll
Trade press Reported stories and analysis Context on bigger industry moves
GemNews Short reports built from public posts, every source linked, in your new tab Catching what matters without opening each feed

Keep the originals for anything you act on, and use the summary to decide which original to open.

How to add the GemNews Shopify news extension to Chrome

Installing takes three steps:

  1. Open the GemNews page on the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome. You can also start from the GemNews install page.
  2. Open a new tab. Chrome asks whether to keep the page, and the GemNews welcome note tells you to choose Keep it, because the other button turns GemNews off.
  3. Check the language. GemNews follows your browser language on first install, and you can switch it from the account menu at the top right.

This is the listing to look for:

The GemNews listing where you add the free extension to Chrome, on the Chrome Web Store, captured October 2026

GemNews works in Chrome, Edge and Brave. In browsers that lock the new tab, such as Comet and Arc, click the toolbar icon to open it. On a phone, the GemNews website carries every story.

Who built GemNews

GemNews is built by the GemBoss team, the team behind GemPages (GemPages is our sister product). GemBoss is the AI Conversion Engine for Shopify brands. It researches the niche, writes ad angles, and builds advertorials, listicles, quizzes, landing pages and a headless storefront, then A/B-tests and personalizes them.

A person approves every change, as the page on how the conversion engine works explains. GemNews itself is free: Hot News, Case Studies and Articles need no account or plan.

GemNews also leads into GemCommunity. There you can talk each report through with sellers and DTC operators. If you want the pages your ads point at built and tested, see the AI funnel builder. If you only want the news, the extension is all you need.

GemNews on Product Hunt

Launch day starts at 12:01 AM Pacific time on October 31, 2026. The GemNews launch post is by Chris Koh, with the tagline Shopify news from X, Reddit & LinkedIn, in one browser tab. This is the top of the launch page on launch day:

Once launch day starts, the Product Hunt launch page is a good place to tell us what works. We especially want to know what you still scroll for that GemNews should cover.

Frequently asked questions

Is GemNews free?

Yes, Hot News, Case Studies and Articles are free to read, with no account. Member sections such as AI Workflows and live sessions need a GemCommunity account, and some locked pieces open with a member level or a paid plan. A locked piece says which one.

Does GemNews track the pages I browse?

No, according to its store listing: the extension has no permission to touch any page other than its own new tab. Search terms and, with a connected account, your starred items go to GemCommunity, and feedback you send goes to the GemBoss feedback service. Once a day the extension also sends a random install ID that is never linked to an account; the privacy policy has the details.

Who writes the Hot News reports?

AI writes each report from public posts, and an editor reviews it before it goes out. The report says how many source posts it used and links each one, so the original is always one click away.

Is GemNews made by Shopify?

No. GemNews is an independent publication and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Shopify Inc. Product names and trademarks belong to their owners.

Can I read GemNews on my phone?

Yes, on the web. Open news.gemboss.ai in your phone's browser: every story is there in full, with no account needed. The extension itself runs in Chrome, Edge and Brave on a computer.
